Hair loss is personal. Whether you're noticing a receding hairline, thinning at the crown, or you have lost all of your hair in some areas, you don't have to figure it out alone. At Golden State Hair Transplant Clinic's Pleasant Hill and San Francisco locations, Dr. Paul Rose and our hair restoration team offer a full spectrum of treatments from advanced surgical hair transplants to nonsurgical therapies, each tailored to your specific situation and hair restoration goals.
Dr. Paul Rose is a hair restoration specialist at Golden State Hair Transplant Clinic's Pleasant Hill and San Francisco clinics, bringing advanced surgical and nonsurgical expertise to patients across the Bay Area. With a focus on natural-looking results and personalized treatment planning, Dr. Rose works closely with each patient to understand their hair loss history, goals, and lifestyle before recommending a path forward.
Hair transplant surgery is a long-term solution for restoring hair to thinning or bald areas. Using your own hair follicles from a healthy donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp, Dr. Rose precisely transplants grafts to recreate a natural hairline, add density to the crown, or restore other affected areas.
At our Pleasant Hill and San Francisco clinics, we offer two proven transplant techniques.
FUT: Follicular Unit Transplantation
FUT, also called the "strip method", involves removing a thin strip of donor tissue from the back of the scalp, which is then carefully divided into individual follicular units and transplanted into the target area. FUT allows for a high number of grafts in a single session, making it a strong option for patients needing significant coverage.
FUE: Follicular Unit Extraction
FUE is a minimally invasive technique in which individual follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area and transplanted to the thinning or bald zones. Because there is no linear incision, FUE leaves minimal visible scarring and typically has a faster recovery. It's a popular choice for patients who prefer to wear their hair short.
Dr. Rose will walk you through which technique makes the most sense based on your hair characteristics, the degree of hair loss, and your desired outcome.

Hair transplant surgery tends to produce the best results for patients who:

San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP) is a Medi-Cal managed care plan that provides access to a wide range of medical services. Coverage is subject to plan benefits, medical necessity requirements, and any applicable authorizations.
Hair transplant surgery is priced on a per-graft basis, making the total cost directly tied to the number of follicular units needed to achieve your desired results. At Golden State Plastic Surgery, Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUT) is priced at $5 per graft, while the more Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is priced at $7 per graft. Most patients require between 1,500 and 2,000 grafts per session, which puts a typical FUT procedure in the range of $7,500–$10,000 and a typical FUE procedure between $10,500–$14,000. The right technique and therefore the final cost depend on factors such as the extent of hair loss, desired density, and lifestyle preferences, such as hairstyle length. A free consultation with our hair restoration team will provide you with a personalized graft estimate and a clear picture of what your investment will entail.

Surgery isn't the only answer, and for many patients, it isn't the first step. Golden State Dermatology offers a range of clinically backed nonsurgical treatments to slow hair loss, stimulate regrowth, and improve overall hair density. These therapies work best when started early, but can be effective at multiple stages of hair loss.
Our nonsurgical hair restoration menu includes:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: Harness your body's own growth factors to stimulate dormant follicles and encourage regrowth.
Medical Therapies: FDA-approved and prescription-based treatments to address the underlying causes of hair loss.
Regenerative & Bio-Enhancement Therapies: Advanced biologic approaches to support follicle health and hair cycle regulation.

Nonsurgical treatments are often ideal for patients who:
These therapies can be used on their own or as a complement to surgical treatment, depending on your goals. Dr. Rose will help you identify the right combination.
